This book is about Gilbert de Lafayette, from birth to death. Lafayette is one of the richest noble youngster in France in the 18th century. His wife is Adrienne de Noailles. Adrienne came from one of the most illustrious families in France. With his fortunate and his wife background, Lafayette can have a smooth and easy life. A bright future is in front of him, but he choose a rugged road. He wants to distinguish himself. When he first heard about colonists' rebellion, he had decided to be part of the revolution. His father-in-law and the King of France tried to stop Lafayette from traveling to America. In the age of 19, Lafayette escape from France to the battlefields of the America Revolutionary War and joins the colonists to fight against the Redcoats. Although Lafayette did not even step foot into a battlefield before, the Continental Congress granted him the title of Major General. Lafayette showed his bravery in battles and earned the respect as Major General. Besides fighting in the battlefield, Lafayette also played a decisive role on convinced French government to support the colonists in this war. The book included sources notes, bibliography, a time line, and an index.

The recorded history for this period is also the history of Whites. It has very little records of Blacks, who had played importance role for this period. This book, Black Heroes of the American Revolution, had gathered information about some importance Black men of this period. One of the famous Blacks is Crispus Attucks. He was the first victim of Boston Massacre in 1770. It was the starting point for the American Revolution. Blacks also played the role of spy in the war, and James Armistead is one of them. He was the spy sent by Lafayette. James is the one who gives Lafayette importance information that became the key of the victory of the battle in Yorktown. This is the battle the ended the Revolutionary war. Besides these two Blacks heroes, this book tells more Black heroes story that should be knew by the people of this country.

The reminded chapters of the book is about the roles played by Blacks, Indians, Women, and Youngster in the War. They played the role of drummer, scout, spy, solider, leader, fundraiser, nurse, recruiter, messenger, washerwoman, and more. All these roles are essential for the American to win the war. The book has a glossary, resources page, and an index.
